Endowment Fund Check Distributions

Harrison County agency representatives gathered at the Logan Public Library, in Logan to receive their checks.  During the brief check distribution ceremonies, Mr. Randall honored the not-for-profit agencies for their individual efforts to provide a better quality of life for the residents of Harrison County.  Randall said, “The thirteen agencies receiving grants today represent their community’s efforts at building stronger communities.  That is what the Harrison County Endowment Fund is all about.  Our Advisory Board is pleased to direct $12,000 in grants to these important community efforts in Harrison County.”  Mr. Randall thanked the Logan Public Library for hosting the event.

The charitable gift distributed to the Boyer Valley Youth Organization was made possible by a grant from the Richard and Kathryn Randall Endowed Fund that was established six years ago.

Three years ago the Wubbena C. Rand Endowed Fund was established.  Annual grants from the Rand fund instruct the Harrison County Endowment Fund Advisory Board to select worthy charitable projects throughout Harrison County.  Grants from the Rand fund go to Missouri Valley Public Library, City of Modale Parks and Recreation Dept. and Harrison County Historical Village and Welcome Center.

Randall explained, “The Harrison County Endowment Fund is a countywide community foundation.  It is a charitable, public foundation that was created by and for the people of Harrison County to offer easy and effective philanthropy with maximum tax advantages.  The Harrison County Endowment Fund was established to help donors do charitable good by creating endowment funds.”  Randall said, “In other words we are For Good…Forever.”

The Harrison County Endowment Fund helps individuals, families, businesses and organizations create permanent funds that help our county address the changing, vital charitable needs.  Contributions large and small come in the form of cash, appreciated securities, real estate and end of life bequests that leave a lasting legacy.  The Harrison County Endowment Fund invests and administers these funds and makes 5% of the fund balance available each year for distribution to qualified organizations.    “Including today’s grants, we have now distributed $27,800 for the year in grants and scholarships from the funds we administer in our county-wide community foundation,” said Randall.

Members of the Harrison County Endowment Fund are: Chair, Jay T. Randall of Dunlap; Vice Chair, Larry D. King of rural Missouri Valley; Secretary/Treasurer, Paul A. Fouts of Woodbine; Gary J. Altwegg, Esq. of Logan; Jacqueline Dollen of rural Persia and J.L. “Pete” Petersen of Missouri Valley.  For more information on creating your family fund, foundation or scholarships in Harrison County, contact the Endowment Funds of Southwest Iowa, Dennis N.
